Sentry Esports Partners With Play It Forward 2
PITTSBURGH, PA — Sentry Esports is proud to partner with Play It Forward for its second iteration. Play It Forward is an annual in-person charity tournament Smash Ultimate tournament series in Pittsburgh, PA. This year, it will be held at Carnegie Mellon University in Baker Hall on February 10, 2024. Talented players from the Steel City and in our surrounding regions will be attending to fight for the prize – and support a great cause!
Featuring a $1000 pot bonus for Smash Ultimate singles, alongside Squad Strike and a Redemption Bracket, Play It Forward 2 is shaping up to be even better than the last. Catering will be provided at the event from Costco for all attendees to enjoy! All venue proceeds for this tournament will go to Camp Kesem, a charity for children who have either lost a parent(s) or have a parent(s) that has cancer. Learn more about Camp Kesem here.
Sentry reached out to the founder of Play It Forward, Andrew Lee (also known by his tag, ansd), to learn about his inspiration for starting his charity series, the reason for his selection of Camp Kesem, his vision for the series moving forward, and about the crew that makes it all possible.
“What made me want to start this was just to help people. We can do a lot of good in the eSports community and this is one of them. It was inspired by the Hope Tournament as well. Something that has been doing good for the Pittsburgh community for a while now.
But the specific reason I chose this charity. I’ve lost my dad back when I was 14 and, in a world, as unpredictable as this having something to give these kids some hope is important. Genuinely. Kind of something I wish I had around that time.
As for what’s next? Adding more games, but slowly, starting probably with Melee and Street Fighter 6. I would love to add panels. The lack of esports infrastructure here in the US is jarring and I want to help address that. These panels would hopefully help people who want to get into the industry and what paths they can take. Make things more transparent.
I would like to shoutout the groups that have been freaking awesome and have helped with literally everything. The UPitt Smash Club shoutout to Kaiden for helping me run the tournament and getting competitors from all over the Midwest and East Coast! Immortal the TO for Gamble who has been great help with setting up it and getting people in! CMU Smash has a great help as well to everything from helping with TOs and getting us monitors! Of course, I also must thank PGH Sentry for literally just everything from the page to this. The Pittsburgh community is one of a kind, honestly.”
Sentry will be streaming all of the action live on our Twitch, so make sure not to miss it! Sign up now!
